The Bicycle Touring 101 website is dedicated to sharing information with other cyclists but that information sharing does not extend to private information including names, phone numbers, email addresses etc without the prior permission of the individuals concerned.
Articles, pictures, interviews and other information submissions
Anybody who makes information or pictorial contributions to the Bicycle Touring 101 website will receive complete recognition for their efforts. In most cases that recognition will extend to a website link and full name. I do this to make sure that people receive credit for their efforts but not at the cost of someone's personal privacy.
When information is provided to the Bicycle Touring 101 website it is possible to request that I post something like "name withheld at submitter's request" if that is your preference. A website link is also an optional item.
Contact Us
The Contact Us form is intended to help people get in touch with the editor while reducing the amount of spam mail received from web bots taking my email address from the various pages on this web site.
Any communication made using the Contact Us form will be kept private unless I receive approval from the submitter to use parts or the entire email as a quote or other addition to an article. Email addresses included in the form will also be kept private.
Guestbook
Most information in the guestbook is publically available for other guests to review. Please keep this in mind when placing a guestbook entry.
It is possible to hide your email address by checking the "Hide email" checkbox. Other guests can still send you a follow-up comment using a form that pops up. The disadvantage to this method is that you will have no way to reply unless they include their email address in their comment.
At no time is your email address provided to others by the Bicycle Touring 101 website without your prior permission. Remember that if you leave the email address visible on this page then others will be able to view it.
Mailing List
Your participation in the Bicycle Touring 101 Mailing List is appreciated. The Mailing List has been configured to hide your email address from others. As far as I know the membership information is hidden and secure. If you believe that additional configuration settings can improve security further then please let me know.
The membership list of the Mailing List will not be made available to others for any reason.
Polls
Polls are taken from time to time to solicit the opinions of the Bicycle Touring 101 website readers. At no time will individual responses be made publically available without the prior permission of the individuals involved.
I will be providing summary level information on a results page for each poll. Any identifying information like email addresses, names, phone numbers etc will be removed from the results prior to posting.
Sponsor and vendor deals
Sponsors and vendors make deals available to the contributors and readers of this website. Whenever these deals become available I will provide information about them on a web page and provide a method to contact the appropriate people. The only way that sponsors or vendors will receive your contact information is at your request.
Tell A Friend
Email is a wonderful tool that makes the sharing of information possible in many powerful ways. Tell A Friend has been created to make it easier for people to share the information on this web site with others.
The information provided in the Tell A Friend form will be used to send an email to the friend identified with the information that you have provided. Your personal information including your name and email address will not be shared outside of the communication that you've requested with your friend.
If you are receiving unwanted emails from the Tell A Friend form please contact me and I will turn off any emails sent directly to you. If you are receiving the email via a Mailing List that you subscribe to then please let me know and I can discuss turning off email to that Mailing List with the administrator/owner of the affected Mailing List.
This feature is intended to help and not to hurt the sharing of information.
Summary
This is a pretty simple privacy policy. It boils down to the Bicycle Touring 101 website not sharing your information without your permission.
The only exception to this would be at the request of law enforcement. Realistically speaking as long as the information that you have provided doesn't violate copyright laws then I can't see why this request would be made.
It's possible that I have missed something important in this list so please don't hesitate to email me if you have concerns. Chances are that I have simply forgotten something. Once you bring it to my attention then I can update this page accordingly!
