The picture to the right shows me on the twenty-first and final day of my Round Lake Huron tour.
I was wearing what I call my National Jersey. This is a shirt that I really like and when touring I seem to only pull it out for special occasions or when I anticipate hard days.
On that day I was wearing the jersey because I was homeward bound with the successful circuit of the second largest great lake (in North America, third in the world) almost complete.
Two hours after taking that picture I arrived back at the outer limits of my home city of London, Ontario, Canada. Within five kilometers I completed the circle and returned home having caused more then a few heads to turn with my exclamations of extreme joy and happiness at the completion of yet another successful bicycle touring adventure.
Touring is something that has added incredible value to my life from the opportunities to meet new people right though to the chance to see beautiful scenery while living life at a pace that really lets you experience things.
I've been lucky enough to enjoy a number of tours at this point in time all the way from my solo rides around Lakes Huron and Erie through to group rides with some of my best friends.
Here's a list of some of my online journals that you are welcome to read and hopefully enjoy. As time passes I will gradually add to this list.
Each of these tours were a lot of fun and increased my love of bicycle touring.
Information about my current touring bike can be found on the Touring Bike - My Trek 520 after numerous upgrades web page.
I started this website for a number of reasons from wanting to help others get started bicycle touring to conveying thanks to other touring cyclists for helping me when I started out.
The picture at the right was taken during one of my tours. In a way this website is very accurately reflected in that picture.
Before I started this effort my life was very peaceful and in some ways calm.
Now that the website is in full development with content being added daily and feedback pouring in from cyclists all over the world my life has become enriched with fun and excitement. Few things improve life more then doing the things that you enjoy and when you get to share that passion with others from around the world then it becomes even better!
The Bicycle Touring 101 website will be here for the long haul. The hosting service is paid up for two years which is plenty of time for this corner of the web to grow into a useful area for touring cyclists.
I am willing and ready to do my part to help it to happen and based on the feedback and help that I've seen from other cyclists I believe that this vision will very soon be a reality.
Anyway that's more then enough about me and the goals that I have for this website!
In parting I would like to encourage you to step forward and help by providing whatever feedback, suggestions and content about touring that you have to offer. Full details about how to do this are on the How Can I Help web page.
Remember that everything published receives proper credit as well as my deep appreciation and makes you eligible for any available sponsorship deals.
I am preparing for my next tour by reducing my weight, increasing my strength and generally following the principles of my Fitness article. If you are interested you can follow along on Jamie's Pretour Training web page. I also hope to meet up with the Feldmann's during their Cross Canada Family touring adventure this year. I need to be in sufficient shape to not get my butt kicked by the two youngest riders.
If you would like see some of my favourite pictures from my own tours you can see them here.
