As I type this many weeks have passed since my April tour. The heat wave that allowed me to enjoy the Ontario countryside in such warmth disappeared to be replaced with temperatures once again close to freezing. The circle has continued to turn and now the temperatures are once again warm and toasty.
Going on tour in April was something I really needed to do. As always it was excellent to get out on the road and experience the great outdoors. Adding in a visit to a best friend, an enjoyable dinner in a some town restaurant and even some minor annoyances along the way I ended up with a wonderful bicycle touring adventure.
I was surprised at how well I handled two 95 km days back to back at the same time as making a note that I need to work on improving my fitness level in preparation for my next tour. The surprise was only because of the early time in the season. Traditionally I don't ride quite as much per day during the winter compared to spring, summer and fall.
Highlights also included watching the fire in the farm field be extingueshed and viewing the mini icebergs flowing down from Lake Huron.
Next tour? I haven't decided when or where yet although I am thinking soon and I am considering either heading South to explore some more of the countryside between London and Lake Erie or heading North to play in the hills north of the city. At some point this year I intend to try a fixed-gear bike as my touring steed and I also hope to try a tour with a trailer as well.
