The following message was originally posted as an introduction for my "A Breath of Fresh Air" tour.
After months of reading about various bicycle touring adventures from all over the world and updating the Bicycle Touring 101 web site on an almost daily basis it's time to get away for a short period of time and experience my first bicycle tour of 2005. The urge to hit the road has been gradually building for months so to say that I am looking forward to this tour is an understatement!
This tour will be a short tour to visit with one of my best friends who lives in a city about 120 km from my home. For the first time I will be enjoying a light or credit card tour instead of the Self-Contained tours that I normally experience so it should make for an interesting contrast.
I will be packing the required repair gear, warm clothing, some snacks, water and a positive attitude.
Like most tours I will also be experimenting with some new equipment. Today I replaced the stock rear rims on my Trek 520 with a heavier duty set. The original set worked well for three years until I recently noticied that the rear rim has a number of cracks forcing a replacement.
Currently the weather forecast for tomorrow suggests sunshine, reasonably warm temperatures and possibly a mild tail wind. My return trip will likely have me going into a mild headwind but again with nice warm temperatures.
Upon my return I will update my tour log with some pictures of the scenery that I enjoyed. In the meantime check in here to find out more information about my latest tour as I experience it!
