Ed Abel's journey across the continental US with an Adventure Cycling Association group.
In 2002 Ed Abel decided to cross the continental United States as part of a fifteen member Adventure Cycling Association group following the Northern Tier.Along the way he comments on the route and his enjoyment of crossing such a long distance on a bicycle.
At the very beginning of his journal he describes his cycling and camping background including his gradual move from not cycling to becoming someone who cycles an average of 2500 miles per year.
Once the tour begins he mentions his experiences touring as part of a large group including the impact that conflict between individuals can have on the overall team. He also provides insights into how the tour worked out in practical terms. He mentions group votes, the duties of the leader, how things like the cooking rotation works and even how modifications to the route were discussed by the group.
His journal is quite interesting to read. If you are interested in learning about one man's experience as part of an Adventure Cycling Association group ride then you should check out his Would You Do It Again journal.
