Around Lake Ontario 2005 (ALOT 2005)

Are you a cyclist who tends to end up riding solo on fully loaded/self-contained bicycle touring adventures?

Perhaps you ride as part of a group now but you wouldn't mind riding with some new people too?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ride with other cyclists while still having the option to go fully loaded and self-contained during the ride?

Over on the International Bicycle Touring Mailing List and to a smaller extent on Crazyguyonabike.com this idea has been floated and surprisingly a number of people are interested.

The plan is deceptively simple. Go around Lake Ontario by bicycle. crossing the border between the United States of America and Canada twice in the process. Meet other cyclists who are also touring the same route. Along the way enjoy incredible scenery and fun times.

Timing hasn't been decided. It's entirely possible that timing will consist of people joining the route when they wish to and then drop back off route as the mood strikes.

Group sizing is irrelevant since it's very much a free form tour. Some days you might be touring all by yourself while other days you could be in a group of twenty or thirty riders.

Jamie Arlen has decided to act as the planning coordinator for the tour. If you are interested in going or even finding out a bit more about the adventure then please check out the ALOT 2005 website.

I am seriously considering going on this tour. Lake Ontario is one of the three remaining Great Lakes that I plan to circle in order to complete my Great Lakes Circle tour.

I have circled two great lakes do far, Lakes Huron and Erie. Both tours have been full of adventure, fun times, friendly people and incredible scenery. I have no reason to believe that circling Lake Ontario will be any less fulfilling!
