Adding new information and updating existing information to any web site like Bicycle Touring 101 takes a great deal of effort, personal sacrifice and commitment. Occasionally people who have undertaken these efforts become burnt out, run out of money to keep the site available or they find that other things in life begin to take a higher priority.
My primary focus will continue to be the Bicycle Touring 101 web site since there are still many things that I would like to see happen with it. However this doesn't mean that I turn a blind eye to the larger bicycle touring community.
Recently it came to my attention that a wonderful web resource run by Cheryl Kline was in danger of being lost. Rather then see that happen I have decided to sponsor her site. Although that might sound very grandiose, the reality is that her web site requires a small amount of disk space and other server resources that I can make available. Additionally the site has an tremendous number of links to bicycle touring resources around the world and it is complementary to Bicycle Touring 101. After numerous discussions with Cheryl we have agreed that in this case sponsorship means taking over her site, moving it to it's new home and keeping it maintained and updated with new material.
Lately you may have noticed that the number of updates to Bicycle Touring 101 have reduced somewhat. This isn't because of a lack of material. There are currently seventy-seven articles in various stages of the review process.
The slower updates are the result of me spending time on the transfer of Cheryl's site to it's new location. Sometime in the next few weeks I expect that this process will be complete allowing me to once again devote even more attention to Bicycle Touring 101.
It is not my intention to sponsor lots of bicycle touring web sites in this way. My preference will usually be to add material directly to Bicycle Touring 101 instead in the form of articles, interviews and short stories. You shouldn't be too surprised however to see other sites appear here. If I feel that the information on a site is useful, at risk of disappearing completely and I have the resources to help preserve it here then I will certainly at least consider it. Please don't hesitate to inform me of sites that meet this criteria.
If you are interested in seeing the new site it is called "The Travelin Hobo" in honour of Cheryl and the email address that Cheryl seems to enjoy using.
Currently the following sites are sponsored by Bicycle Touring 101.
