Understanding the logo

When thinking about the logo it was necessary to really reflect on the important elements that make up this site. After a couple of days of deep thought three major items kept surfacing.

Here they are:

The website has two logos that share common elements. The first logo is shown in the picture above. The second logo is shown as a banner at the top of most pages.

Book

This website is about sharing knowledge with others. I have always enjoyed reading books and over the years I've learned countless things as a result. It only seemed fitting to use a book to represent the collecting and sharing of knowledge

Touring Bicycle

Although there are many different types of touring bicycles out there it is the common love of touring that brings us all together. A picture of a touring bicycle seemed like a nice way to symbolize this.

Then again it would be rather difficult not to include a touring bicycle as part of the logo for this website wouldn't it?

World

The book and the bicycle sit in front of and inside of a globe showing the world.

The globe highlights three very important concepts.

First of all bicycle touring is something that happens all over the world by people of all religions, cultures, backgrounds and ways of life.

This website has received contributions of content from everywhere so it only seemed proper to include the globe.

The third reason was a recognition that this website is a global resource that people can hopefully use to learn and enjoy bicycle touring. For now the website is only available in english but over time I hope to see it expand into additional languages.
